The professional staff at Urban Eyewear all share a commitment to continuing education.

Urban Eyewear is a strong advocate for social responsiblity and supports community projects with worthy organisations such as Optometrists Giving Sight (OGS). 

 

SooJin Nam B.Optom (UNSW), exec MBA (AGSM)

special interest: behavioural optometry and myopia control

SooJin graduated with her B.Optom at UNSW in 1999 and is a member of Optometrists Association Australia, the Australasian College of Behavioural Optometrists and the Orthokeratology Society of Australia.  SooJin is a clinic supervisor at the School of Optometry (UNSW). SooJin has a special interest in children's vision, myopia control and learning difficulties (in particular, the impact vision has on learning and concentration).  She enjoys helping people to develop better vision in order to improve their ability to study, work and play!  SooJin participated in the Rotary Group Study Exchange to Indiana as part of the centenary team in 2004.  SooJin was recently a volunteer Provision optometrist (in association with ICEE and RACS) for an eyecare service delivery trip to East Timor.  She has also previously been named Young Australian of the Year for community services rendered by her local Council. 

  

Grace Wee B.Optom (UNSW) M. Optom (UNSW)

special interests: behavioural optometry

Grace graduated from the University of New South Wales in 2005 and is a member of the Optometrists Association Australia as well as the Australasian College of Behavioural Optometrists. In her final year, Grace traveled to the UK and completed her preceptorship at the Institute of Optometry, London. This trip has allowed her to gain further insight into her profession, where she broadened her clinical experience in the Primary Eye-Care, Contact Lenses and the SpLD (Special Learning Disability; Pediatrics) department. Grace is now currently doing her Masters in Optometry to further specialise in children's vision and contact lenses.   

Ali Khalife B. Optom (UNSW) B. Med Science (UTS)

Special interests:

Ali completed his optometry degree from the University of New South Wales in 2007 and is a member of the Optometrists Association Australia and the Contact lens Society. He performed his preceptorship in a private clinic in Hobart, Tasmania where he gained further experience in providing primary eye care services to the general public, improved his clinical skills and was involved in the diagnosis, monitoring and treatment of patients with corneal disease, glaucoma, diabetes and macular degeneration. Ali has also completed a medical science degree before his Bachelor of optometry specializing in pharmacology, toxicology and molecular biology, which has enriched his knowledge and helped tremendously in understanding the principles behind various optometric and ophthalmologic therapy.

  

Rebecca Milston B.Optom (UNSW)

Rebecca Milston graduated from the University of New South Wales in 2008 and is a member of the Optometrists Association of Australia. In her final year of study Rebecca completed her preceptorship at the Omni Eye Care Clinic in New York City, an ophthalmology clinic specializing in ocular disease. Here she was given the opportunity to work with highly experienced specialists and was exposed to a wide range of ocular pathologies including advanced glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy and macular degeneration.  She is currently completing her diploma of ocular therapeutics which which will allow her to prescribe a range of eye medications.

Batoul Hammoud B. Orthoptics (Syd Uni)

Batoul Hammoud graduated from the University of Sydney with a Bachelor of Applied Science, Orthoptics. She specialises in binocular vision, squint and amblyopia, working especially closely with children. Batoul also performs basic ophthalmic assessments to detect changes in ocular health and vision. She has had much exposure to various eye practices including paediatric ophthalmology clinics such as at Westmead Hospital, where most of her squint education was trained.  As her key focus at Urban Eyewear, working together with Soojin and the team of optometrical staff, Batoul provides initial detection and evaluation of binocular dysfunction and provides vision therapy for individuals to regulate eye movements and optomise eye teaming. Batoul can help individuals reach their specific goals, whether it be maximising eye focusing at near and distance, or enhancing one's concentration, coordination or memory abilities by training visual perceptual skills.
